The role

We are currently seeking a career-minded Crop Monitor to work between our 2 farms at Katherine, NT

Main responsibilities include:

  • Complete weekly monitoring of crop stage, pest, and diseases from the first sign of bud swell until harvest.
  • Record the results for each monitoring event, prepare trend reports and report findings to Farm Managers and the General Manager. 
  • Work with farm managers to plan, implement and monitor agronomic practices and pest, disease and weed management.
  • Monitor orchard nutrition by accurately collecting and analyzing soil and leaf samples.
  • Maintain records of test results, agrochemical applications, moisture levels, weather data and other activities
  • Supervise and help with tree-training and other day-to-day field activities including R&D
  • Operate agricultural machinery as needed.
  • Assist with some administrative tasks and IT support as needed.
  • There is also the opportunity to be part of the packhouse management team during mango harvest

There is significant self-management and collaboration involved, so you’ll need to take responsibility, show initiative and interact well with people.

You

To be successful in the position you will have a keen interest in horticulture, but we don’t expect you to know it all from day one. It is ideally suited to someone who wants to grow their career, perhaps recently qualified and wanting to get stuck in. You will need:

  • Knowledge of pest, disease, and weed management practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent observational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse, multicultural team.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to provide clear recommendations.

Ideally, you can also bring:

  • Experience in crop monitoring, preferably with mangoes or other fruit trees is desirable.
  • Experience operating agricultural machinery is an advantage.
  • A degree or certification in agriculture, horticulture, or a related field is preferred.
