About Us
Smarta is an industry leader in the development and supply of advanced integrated software and hardware solutions. We serve farmers, dairies, energy and logistics providers with real-time monitoring, pumping and measuring systems and information solutions.
We are much less interested in how things have been done in the past than in how they can be done in the future. Our focus is on how processes can be re-imagined, integrated and streamlined to be more capable, efficient, user-friendly and sustainable. We’re actually really good at that.
The Role
The role of IT Development Manager – Embedded Systems involves:
- Managing, developing and coordinating small teams locally and overseas, including subcontractors where applicable.
- Leading development projects and continual improvement initiatives.
- Planning, coordinating and supervising software development schedules and processes.
- Ensuring data processing is managed efficiently and productively.
- Overseeing the implementation and functionality of infrastructure such as servers, networks, platforms and so on.
- Building capability, relationships and resource base through sourcing external experts where required.
- Thinking strategically, but also working on a hands-on technical level with individuals and teams as required.
- Identifying gaps and opportunities in teams and processes.
- Contributing to costings and project design.
- Ensures projects and tasks are delivered to customers as specified, within budget, and on-time.
- Overseeing and actively contributing to the performance and development of team members.
You will report to and collaborate with the CEO, while also liaising and coordinating with others to optimize communication, ideas and outcomes. There are no silos.
You
To thrive in this role, you will need:
- Proven team management experience, comfortable engaging with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Sound technical skills so you can have detailed conversations with the experts in your team.
- Proven project planning and management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication habits.
- Experience in developing teams and the people within them.
- Some exposure to coding, but a preference to delegate and support others. If your default is to do it yourself, you’re probably not really a manager.
- Personal drive, sound ethics and clarity of vision.
Initiative and a strong desire to contribute to idea and team development going forward is essential. Innovation is “business as usual” at Smarta, and you’ll need to actively contribute to that.
Benefits
The salary offered to the successful candidate will reflect current skills, experiences and knowledge, with an eye also on the long term. For a people-focused IT manager who wants to get involved in really exciting and innovative projects and teams, this seems like a pretty unique opportunity.
WFH won’t suit as we work and succeed together as a team but flexibility in hours can be discussed. You will also get the opportunity to be highly autonomous and to influence the growth and capabilities of the people and the business. Every day can be different, and with so much happening now and so much more possible, you’ll ever get bored.
