The Role
We are currently seeking a seasonal packhouse supervisor who will be responsible for monitoring fruit quality in the packhouse during the harvest period.
Key Tasks include:
Receival and intake Inspection
Packed Product and Reject Analysis
Reporting and Communication
Maintaining secure records
Technical training is provided, so if you’re diligent with an eye for detail but no fruit grading experience, that’s fine.
The Seasons
The role starts with the start of harvest, and finish when it is over, and the dates for that depend on whether you’d like to start and finish in one location, or follow the harvest from Katherine to FNQ. The local harvest seasons are typically:
- Katherine – early September through to mid November
- Townsville / Ayr – November to end December
- Mareeba – mid November to mid April
If you are available for some times and locations, but not others, that’s fine. There is some overlap, but if your preference is to start in Katherine and then switch over to Queensland, that is possible too. That way you can choose to work at one or more of those locations, as you prefer.
Expect average weeks during harvest to be between 30 and 60 hours, with pay, overtime pay rates and other entitlements according to the award with some additional flexibility according to the skills and experience you bring. Accommodation may be available depending on location and personal circumstances.

- A calm, positive attitude, good communications skills and willingness to do the job efficiently and effectively.
The work is inside the packshed under cover so you’re rarely out in the sun, but it is the Australian outback in the lead-up to summer and the conditions are generally on the hotter side. You’ll need to be Ok with that.
