Seasonal Packhouse Manager – Katherine

Manbulloo

Manbulloo specialises in growing, packing, marketing, and distributing the highest quality mangoes and avocados, with seven farms across NT and Northern Queensland

Manbulloo is proud to deliver the best fruit to customers within Australia and overseas too. Supported by a committed R&D capacity, from flowering to supermarket shelves the focus on premium quality is unparalleled.

The Role

We are currently seeking a seasonal packhouse manager responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of sorting, grading, and packing fruit in preparation for transport for the upcoming harvest season at one of our Katherine NT farms, with the plan to then move to northern Queensland to do the same there.

Expect to work 5-6 days a week, subject to harvest schedule and weather, so once you’re into it, there’ll be plenty to keep you occupied.

Ideally you’ll have packhouse experience but if you’ve had experience and enjoy managing diverse busy teams, this could be a great fit for you. Technical training and support around process and quality is available, so if mangos are a little outside of your experiences, don’t worry.

The role involves:

  • Planning and allocating staff.
  • Overseeing quality and productivity
  • Ensuring team members have the knowledge and confidence to perform their tasks
  • Oversight of training, work standards and admin.
  • Liaising with others on farm and at head office to share information and coordinate activities

The Seasons

The roles start with the start of harvest, and finish when it is over. The local NT harvest seasons are typically mid September through to mid-late November, quickly ramping up so that by October it’s flat out – you won’t get bored! The Horseshoe Lagoon (near Townsville) Queensland farm starts immediately packing after that and continues through to early January.

All up, expect the season to run for about 12-16 weeks across the 2 locations, with lots of work to be done along the way.

You

To succeed you will need

  • Staff supervision experience and interpersonal skills
  • To love working in a busy environment with lots to think about and do.
  • To work comfortably and harmoniously within a multicultural team.
  • A proactive approach to learning, supporting and guiding the people around you
  • A calm, positive attitude, good communications skills and willingness to do the job efficiently and effectively.
  • To want to be based for a couple of months in an authentic remote location – the Katherine area is beautiful and 3 hot hours from Darwin, before shifting to the more tropical Townsville region.

Ideally you will have worked in a similar environment before, but it is not necessary so long as you are keen to learn, responsible, and happy working at a fast pace with lots going on around you.

This opportunity may be especially suited to those who otherwise want to work with citrus, apples, avocadoes or kiwi fruit in their harvest periods, filling out your year nicely.
